Beat is the UK's leading charity supporting those affected by eating disorders and campaigning on their behalf. Founded in 1989 as the Eating Disorders Association. The charity is dedicated to helping people with anorexia nervosa, bulimia, binge eating disorder, emotional overeating, OSFED* and other eating disorders, and providing information to the public about these conditions. They are a champion, a guide and a friend. They give a place to sufferers and their loved ones where they can feel listened to, supported and empowered.
A champion
They work to tackle misunderstanding and stigma at every level so people can get the help they need and deserve as quick as possible.
A guide
They translate the complex and technical into practical guidence. We help healthcarecare professionals recognise the thoughts and feelings behind these illnesses, rather than focusing physical symptoms.
A friend
They run phone and email helplines, message boards, and online support groups. We offer awareness training, regional support services, and a helpfinder service to help people find treatment in their area.
* Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorders (OSFED)
