This is a textbook model of a castle. It is a pity that it was never fully completed before Edward I ran out of money...
Did you know?
- Edward I wanted his new castle and town to prosper so he moved the entire population of nearby Llanfaes to create Newborough on the other side of the island.
- Started in 1295, building work stopped after 35 years. The castle was never completed.
- In 1403, supporters of Owain Glyndwr besieged the castle. It was recaptured in 1405.
