- Chepstow was established by William fitz Osbern just a year after the Battle of Hastings (1066) It was probably as an earth and timber castle.
- In the 18th Century the castle became an industrial estate; the hall was used for blowing glass to make wine bottles.
- Chepstow Castle has been popular with tourists for over 200 years and has been painted by artists including Turner.
