Get closer to your dream of having a baby
Trying for a baby-get your timing right
Planning to have a baby is one of the most exciting times in a couple's life.
Once you have decided to have a baby, it's quite natural to feel impatient for it to happen soon.
If that's the case the case you may be interested to know that one of the key reasons getting pregnancy can take longer than expected is couple's not having sex on the right days of a women's cycle.
There are only a few days each cycle when it is possible to become pregnant:the the day of ovulation (when the egg is released)and the few day before this, as sperm can survive in your body for a few days.
Menstrual cycles vary from woman to woman to woman and from cycle to cycle - and so does the day of ovulation. In fact, 46 percent of women have cycles that vary by seven days or more. This is where ovulation tests can be beneficial, as they can detect the changes in levels of key fertility hormones on the days leading up to ovulation, so a woman can identify her most fertile days in advance and can plan to spend time with her partner on the days when she has the best chance of getting pregnant.
In the UK, the average age for a woman to give birth is to her first child is 29, an age at which fertility has already started to decline. This means that accurately identifying your personal fertile days is important to maximise your chances of conception.
How does the science work?
Your fertility is controlled by hormones, one of which is estrogen. The level of estrogen rises a few days before ovulation and this rises changes the consistency of your cervical mucus to make it a friendly environment for sperm to survive in. When your estrogen level reaches its peak, it triggers a sudden surge in another key hormone, luteining hormone(LH). This LH surge is what causes the egg to be released from the ovary (ovulation) approximately 24-36 hours later.
Most Ovulation tests only detect the LH surge, identifying the 2 days when you are most likely to become pregnant.
Only Clearblue Advanced, & Connected Ovulation systems track both LH and estrogen, typically identifying 4 or more fertile days, that's more than any other ovulation test, helping you to get pregnant sooner.
By identifying more fertile days, you and your partner can be more relaxed, have more flexibility with your planning and have fun on your journey to get pregnant.
How does the test work?
The tests are easy to do, similar to a pregnancy test. The day you need to start testing depends on your cycle length.
Using the first urine after your longest sleep, you can either test directly in your urine stream or with a sample of urine you have collected.
The display on the product guides you through the testing process and after 5 minutes displays your result.
Low fertility: It is unlikely but not impossible that you will get pregnant if you have intercourse on a Low fertility days. You should test again the next day.
High fertility: Have intercourse on high fertility days. (flashing smiley face) to increase your chances of getting pregnant naturally. The test will continue to display high fertility each day now until it detects your LH surge. You should test again the next day.
Peak fertility: This is your most fertile time. Have intercourse on peak fertility days to maximise your chances of getting pregnant naturally. The peak fertility smiley face will remain on the display for 48 hours after it first appears to confirm your 2 most fertile days. You cannot do another test while peak fertility is shown as the holder won't be able to read it.
Not all women's cycles are the same, hormone patterns differ and so the number of fertile days you will see is personal to you.
