DID YOU KNOW?

- Tintern was a popular subject for artists and writers including Turner and Wordsworth.

- The abbey was founded in 1131 by Walter fitz Richard of Clare, an Anglo-Norman lord. It was the second Cistercian abbey in Britain.

After the monastery was suppressed by Henry VIII, the area became crowded with cottages andearly industrial buildings.
