About us

Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent Mind is a mental health charity that is committed to raising awareness and reducing stigma associated with mental health.


Their mission is to provide information, support and training to anyone affected by periods of emotional distress or mental health issues.


They provide a wide variety of support and therapeutic activities as well as being able to provide information, advice and guidance.


Pre-tenancy

What is pre-tenancy?

The pre-tenancy service offers support to homeless men throughout Torfaen from the age of 16 who are experiencing housing issues and have difficulties in relation to their emotional health and well-being.


Support aims to help individuals through the process of sourcing and maintaining an initial tenancy and achievement of positive lifestyle changes.


The service provides practical support including, information, guidance and referrals into services within Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent Mind, external referrals and the use of centre facilities. (shower, washing machine,food, clothes etc)


Supported Housing

What is supported housing?

Rooms a in shared house designed to:

- Support you to learn or regain skills to move into independent living.

- Identify your permanent accommodation needs and work with you on securing an appropriate independent accommodation.

- Support you to identify new opportunities to enhance your well-being.

- Promote an understanding and management of your mental health and well-being.

- Support you with claiming benefits/ budgeting and managing your money.

- Support you with daily living skills.

- Support you to improve your confidence and self-esteem.

- Support you to access other services and opportunities.

- Provide other practical support


About their service:

- Two housing projects in Pontypool (one of which provides support for those with higher needs)

-Three houses in Cwmbran

Support Mon-Fri between 9am - 5pm


Floating Support

What is floating support?

Floating support is a tenancy based service which will:

- Enable you to live independently in your own home.

- Enable you to manage your mental health.

- Support you to gain quality in everyday life.

- Enable you to maintain your tenancy.

- Support you to access other services.

- Support you to claim benefits/ budget/ manage your money

- Enable you to develop life skills

- Support you to improve your confidence and self-esteem

- Provide emotional support for you

- Support you to develop your social networks and access activities

- Provide you with other practical support.


About their service:

- We provide support through the local authority's Tenancy Support Scheme (TSS)

- We provide support through Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent Mind Scheme

- Telephone Monitoring scheme - this is provided to all individuals who have accessed the floating support service.


,Day Activities

Day services provide a variety of activities for everyone to access within Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent these include:

- Art and Crafts

- Social Hubs

- Walking groups

- Day trips

Recovery and Beyond

Recovery and beyond offers 6 courses delivered in groups over 4-8 weeks. These group are designed to provide the individual with self-help methods to help become their own therapist.

The groups provided are:

- Anxiety Management

- Depression Management

- Understanding Anger

- Confidence Building

- Problem solving

- Well-being


Counselling

What is Counselling?

- Counselling is often referred to as a talking treatment.

- Counselling can help you overcome emotional difficulties

- Counselling can free you from unhelpful ways of feeling, thinking and behaving.

- Your counsellor acts as a facilitator

- Your counsellor will not tell you what to do, but will provide an accepting, non judgmental atmosphere in which you will be helped to identify your own strengths, look at problem solving strategies and development insights, to give you better control of your life.
